We invite you to help us design the GREENEST STREET in Philadelphia – the new Spring Garden Street Greenway!
What is the Greenway? It’s the 2.2 miles of Spring Garden Street from the Delaware River to the Schuylkill River, which could soon provide the best walking, biking and yes, even driving experience in the City!
Take a tour of the website, and learn more about the Greenway – come to a Public Meeting, share your ideas for how certain locations along Spring Garden Street could be improved and stay involved!
The Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) is working with many partners, from the City of Philadelphia to every neighborhood group along Spring Garden. But a new Spring Garden Street Greenway will only happen if:
1) The planning and design process shows we can meet some pretty lofty goals
2) You stay involved, support our work and help us move it forward!
The Pennsylvania Environmental Council’s (PEC) involvement with Spring Garden Street started four years ago with two key questions: how best to connect our region’s growing trail networks, and how best to connect Philadelphia’s two riverfronts. We completed the Center City Greenway Feasibility Study to answer these questions. It identified Spring Garden Street as the preferred option – and also started the process of unearthing Spring Garden’s potential to be a more complete street that better serves those traveling on foot or bicycle, by car, bus, or train.
The Spring Garden Street Greenway project starts now, with the goals of sharing that potential with a larger audience, generating excitement about a new greenway that connects river to river and neighborhoods to neighborhoods, and convening all those interested in designing and building the City’s greenest street!
